Perfect Pillows
Your pillow can be the difference between a good night's
sleep and a stiff neck in the morning. The more supportive
your pillow is, the better you will sleep and the less
likely you are to awaken with aches and pains.
Firstly, decide on what level of support you need: soft,
medium or firm. It's all about your sleeping position. If
you sleep on your front, a soft support will be best for you
as your spine won't need much alignment. If you prefer to
recline on your back, medium support is best. This will keep
your neck from lying at an unnatural angle and if you're a
side sleeper, invest in a pillow with firm support to ensure
there are no stiff necks or back pain in the morning.
Next, choose the filling you would like. Are you a lover of
the natural, do you prefer synthetic materials or do you
like a touch of luxurious memory foam? Natural down is the
softest filling available and offers support in the
low-medium range and will mould to the shape of the
sleeper's head. If it tends to go a bit thin after a while,
you can add some feathers to it to plump it up again, and
it'll be as good as new.
Synthetic filling is great for allergy sufferers as they
don't mind being washed often and they offer more support
than the natural fibres. Some microfibre pillows feel just
as soft as down with the added bonus that they can be put in
the washing machine as required.
Memory foam pillows are the firmest and most supportive
pillows on the market. The temperature sensitive material
will mould to the individual sleeper, relieving pressure
points and they come in a variety of shapes. Traditional
memory foam is just what it implies, but you can choose
contour for optimum support (this can take a little getting
used to) and for a touch of luxury, memory foam and
goosedown combined give a soft and slightly more pliable
sleeping surface. If you need a new bed look no further than
